AIGA DEC 2025 Branding: “Weave”
Design Streak Studio was approached by the American Institute of Graphic Artists to create branding for their upcoming 2025 Design Educators conference at Illinois State University, “Weave”.
For this group project, my team members and I concentrated on the physical act of weaving elements together to reflect the more metaphorical aspects highlighted in the client’s creative brief. We split the title up into line segments and lines as decorative elements in the branding to evoke imagery of interlacing strings and pathways. AIGA also places importance on exploring culturally informed perspectives on design, especially at their education conferences, where instructors from varied backgrounds come to share ideas. As AIGA has recently celebrated a wave of activity from its Latino members, my team used the font “Mundial” by the Uruguayan type foundry TipoType to emphasize the importance of diverse narratives in communication. Our concept was ultimately chosen by AIGA, and different variations of this design were used to advertise and brand the event.

Social Media Posts
Social media was AIGA’s primary mode of advertising for the event, so my team was asked to design post graphics for a variety of platforms and sizes to ensure promotional reach for the event was broad.
Outreach was quite possibly the most important aspect of this event, as the primary goal of the conference was to bring in educators from varied backgrounds to create dialogues about the future of graphic design and design education. It was incredibly important to create eye-catching, on-brand visuals to maximize engagement for this leg of the project. We did this by diversifying color palettes and dynamically arranging information across all post formats.
Process
After reviewing the client’s creative breif and AIGA’s brand guidelines, my team set out to develop the imagery for the conference branding. We each sketched out an initial layout for the first piece of advertising collateral- the newsletter callout. After each member detailed their concept, we took time to single out some strong key design proponents of each and combined them into one design. Out of three proposed branding concepts from the studio, AIGA chose my group’s work to be the face of branding for the event.
Apparel
The design work for collateral items for the DEC conference was distributed among members of Design Streak Studio. My team was largely tasked with designing the apparel items that would be handed to conference attendees and staff, including name badges, graphics for t-shirts and tote bags, and button pins.
The name badges were specially designed in a customizable InDesign template to allow AIGA staff to input names and other important information as they collected attendance numbers.
For budgetary reasons, the t-shirt and tote bag designs involved some limtiations. We were restricted to only one color for these graphics, so it was very important that these designs were bold enough to catch attention from afar without relying on a color scheme. We settled on using the orignal title graphic cut out against a solid background to create a striking visual contrast.
