ISU Department of History Direct Mailer
This brochure was created in Design Streak Studio for Illinois State’s History department. As a way to increase registration and interest in their graduate program, the department requested a direct mailer that doubled as a poster to send to prospective students and other universities. Because this poster would most likely be displayed alongside brochures from other schools, the most important factor in its design was uniqueness.
The client requested that the brochure have a somewhat abstract, yet simple and timeless illustrative look while showcasing student life in the program and its slogan, “Study the Past, Build the Future”. In my approach to this project, I applied simple geometric elements of Bauhaus design to emphasize the grad program’s focus on structure, creative applied thinking, and a future-oriented outlook. One of the most important aspects that the client wanted to emphasize was the concept of roundtable discussions. To reflect this, I used circles as decorative visual motifs in around the composition. This brochure was chosen out of various student designs by the client to be mailed for a four-year period.
